September 24, 2024

PAU ALEIKUM GARCIA, FOUNDER, DIRECTOR & MEDIA DESIGNER, DOMESTIC DATA STREAMERS

Today on the podcast, Pau Aleikum Garcia - a media designer and the founder and director of Domestic Data Streamers, a team of 30 interdisciplinary profiles creating projects around media literacy, misinformation, capacity building and dissemination around data and GEN-AI for organizations such as the United Nations, California Academy of Sciences or Citizen Lab in over 45 countries.

The conversation explores the critical disconnection between how we perceive data and what it truly represents. Data's abstract nature often leaves us emotionally detached, which underscores the dehumanizing effect of relying too heavily on numbers—where numerical representation can numb our responses. This discussion emphasizes the need to rehumanize these conversations by finding new ways to view the world that create a deeper emotional connection. By recognizing that data is inherently reductionist, we can better understand how the datafication of individuals and communities often leads to the exertion of power over certain groups.
