SOUR and Buro Happold’s Urban C:lab team explored a roadmap for Mumbai, which aims for carbon neutrality by 2050. The city faces significant challenges, including a projected population doubling by mid-century, which will strain infrastructure and quality of life. As a coastal city, it is particularly vulnerable to rising sea levels.
More than 50% of the city's population lives in informal settlements. Achieving the 2050 goals calls for much deeper collaboration with the communities, local activation, and acceleration in progress.
